Scholes - The Perfect Footballer... 09/08/2010
![]() Paul Scholes emerged as man-of-the-match on Sunday, as The Red Devils were victorious over fierce rivals Chelsea. Scholes was heavily involved in the first goal, and his pin-point passing and crossing was a treat to watch. Here, Aditya Subba takes a look at what makes Scholesey the perfect footballer... Report By: Aditya Subba in Nepal, 9:55am I have been fan of the Manchester united since the treble winning season of 1999. The squad of '99 is still known as one of the best squads in club to date. There were home grown players like David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, the Neville brothers and other fine players like Peter Scmeichel, Denis Irwin, Andy Cole and the list can go on and on. But the player from the season I recall most is none other than Paul Scholes who is also known as the 'Ginger Ninja'. Scholes is not one of the highlighted and high profile players of Manchester United, but he does his part perfectly without any complaints. He is renowned for his pin-point accurate passing, bamboozling shooting and deep understanding of the game. He is the standard player that all other clubs lack. The Ginger Ninja is in the twilight of his career at the age of 35 and we can presume that there might be only one or two more seasons left in him. There are lots of speculations in the media about the replacement for the maestro but in my opinion, no one really replace him. The reason is simple that he is rare species and only one of a kind. We might see glances of him in Darron Gibson or Anderson but neither have the consistency that Scholes has maintained for almost two decades. Scholes is the only player who can be called the perfect player, for the following reasons - never say die attitude, passion and love for the club, silent but effective and most importantly giving fans the reason to cheer with those precious moments of pure genious. The one I remember the best most recently is the goal vs Barcelona in the 2008 Champions League Semi Final 2nd Leg, it was amazing. It was blend of the power and the precision and calmness which secured us the place in the final. The most recent one is the perfect header in the extra time against Manchester City which kept us in contention for the fourth consecutive Premiere league title, only loosing by 1 point at the end to Chelsea. Many football pundits have opinion that the absence of Scholes was one of the main reasons for the failure and lack-luster performance of English team in the World Cup 2010. Before the tournament, he denied to be part of the team but recently he has said that he was not approached directly by Fabio Capello and was given only 2 hours to decide. He said, "It wasn't the manager who rang me, it was Franco Baldini (Capello's assistant). I don't know Capello really, but maybe it would have meant more if he'd phoned me. I thought two hours wasn't a long time to make a major decision and that's why I probably said NO." The admiration for Scholes is not limited to fans like me. The team-mates, opponents, managers and ex-players, everyone rates him as the perfect player. His former team-mate Peter Scmeichel said: "People say he is a great player, but you have to define what a great player is, For me, it is a player who has a bottom level that means his worst performance is not noticed. If he is having a bad game, a team-mate might feel Paul Scholes is not quite on his game, but a spectator wouldn't notice. Scholes, of all the players I have played with, has the highest bottom level. His reading of the game is unsurpassed. He has an eye for a pass, for what the play or the game needs at that precise moment, that I have never seen anyone else have. He controls and distributes the play and the game better than anyone I have ever seen..." CommentsJohnny Mohair 09/08/2010 9:55am

I've a feeling after watching Scholes yesterday, that if we are going to sign Ozil at all, it will be next season

Scholes had a fine game yesterday and has been one of our finest players. He is, however, far removed from being "The Perfect Footballer" as he simply cannot tackle (and never has been able to).
