World Cup stars Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick, Ji-Sung Park and Nemanja Vidic will all play a part in the opening football game in the brand new Aviva Stadium in Dublin, as will Antonio Valencia - returning from injury - the club announced yesterday. Today, the boss said the four players were doing well in training, with Luis Valencia not too far behind...

"Rooney, Park, Carrick and Vidic are back in training and are doing well. Valencia is also training well and needs a game. All of them will be involved and Chicharito will also be part of the squad."

Asked whether Gibson and Sheasy would play, he said: "Yes, they deserve to, and O'Shea will probably be captain." United and an Airtricity League XI will be the first football sides to take to the ground, after a rugby union opener between the four provinces of Ireland. "It looks fantastic - it is spectacular" said Sir Alex about the new 50,000-seater Aviva Stadium.
