Mesut Ozil - The Key To United Success... 07/08/2010
![]() Mesut Ozil... who’s he ? - I should think you know by now. Whether you’re completely fed-up of the whole 'saga', or like me, trying to discover any thread of news which points to Ozil coming to Manchester United - it’s clear that he is a fantastic talent… isn’t he ? Report By: William Jones, 9:40am Before the World Cup began, not many people knew of Ozil. Sure Sir Alex scouted him when he was younger, and his performances were top quality in the tournament itself - but if Michael Ballack wasn’t injured - would he have really played for Germany in the World Cup ? However, we can’t really base how good a player really is from performances in an international tournament. So why do United (in my opinion) need this creative genius ? - Well let's take a look at the stats…
We now have 'Chicharito' this season, but as we all know - playing a first season in the Premier League is never easy. The trouble will come when our front line struggles to score goals, and if this happens, who can we rely on ? The question is will we buy Ozil. I know many people say that we don’t have the funds, but in my opinion I think we do. David Gill has stated several times that we have the money if it’s there and contrary to the other players linked with United, Ozil is most certainly 'value for money'. Currently with SkyBet he is odds-on to join us, and I am confident he will do so (although you may call it wishful thinking). So, if you need more proof of how good Ozil really is, then why not watch this video... CommentsDarren 07/08/2010 9:50am
Imagine him playing with a forward line like Chicharito and Rooney = GOALS

Can't understand SAF when he says that there's no value in the market. Football like any other business requires that you speculate to accumulate; and if SAF counts the cost of not winning the Premiership and Champions League, than further investment in a choice player like Ozil is and must be a given.

i would love to see Ozil coming to United. But i dont think SAF will buy him. Fergie did not loan out Cleverley which means he is confident over young talents coming through the youth academy. But i can say, we could hit two jackpots in a row if we buy h 07/08/2010 10:21am

Have faith guys....there is a reason that not one club has bid for him at a knock down price. Where are Barcelona's, Madrid's, Chelsea's, City's bids for him? This suggests he may be slightly over rated. Be honest, how many of you knew Ozil before the world cup? I could have trained a chimp to look good against the Argies and our defences! If you couldnt find space on that pitch you're in trouble!

Can't understand all this ' no value in the market' coming from SAF. Can't understand Ozil being thought of as worse than what we have in midfield. Either SAF is finally losing it or we have no money whatsoever. Rememeber folks we have just sold Tosic and Foster so the money Bremen are asking suddenly becomes insignificant - we do have the money to buy him. If we don't buy him then he will go to a big club and come back to haunt us in the future. Barca have been chasing Fabregas and can now turn to Ozil instead. Madrid have a wealth of talent in midfield but look to set up a deal for Ozil where he stays at Bremen for this coming season and joins them later. Chelsea have just bought Rameries and City have bought the whole world. Gibson or Ozil who would you have?- or is that a question that we all know the answer to.And Scholes can't go on forever - Ozil is a ready made replacement.

"I look at the players everyone says are available and they don't excite me." This quote was made by SAF.A website today suggested that SAF may have travelled 2 London to watch Ozil, but hang on the last time he himself went to watch someone it was Angel Di Maria who landed up with Real Madrid.I JUST HOPE it does not happen this time !!!

Remember that United play Fulham in the second game of the season so maybe Fergie is going there just for general preparations. Although it does seem a little strange as it's only a friendly. Does Fergie usually get someone else to watch future oppositions games? And do we really think that this means he could well sign Ozil despite his earlier comments about no value in the market.

Hey maybe the supposed disinterest of Sir Alex is done on purpose, so as not to inflate the fees if united show interest. United seems to do things rather quietly these days. Look at how Diouf, Smalling and Hernandez was signed, all surprises. And so were the many new reserve players as Obertan, Pogba, those 2 italian defenders Massacci and what's his name, or even Ole's group of King, Eikrem, Hussain, all came out of the blue. Meaning, just wait n see. Something will happen before the transfer deadline, I am sure. New signings. Question now is - who?

I imagine he will stay in London, and wait for the rest of the squad to arrive later. But I cannot think of any other reason why Sir Alex would travel to London to watch Fulham and Werder Bremen unless it was very, very important. ie. a transfer.

Karthik, there is photographic proof of Sir Alex being at the Fulham match, search Getty Images. It is very unusual that he would skip United's public training session at Old Trafford today in order to watch a Fulham friendly.

It would be a different story if we weren't playing in London this weekend. It's not like Fergie travelled down especially for this game so we can't read too much into it. There are many reasons to make the trip worthwhile: Ozil is available, Sparky is a mate, we play Fulham in 2 weeks, he had to travel down anyway.... Maybe he promised his wife a day/night out before the season starts? :)

This is ridiculous. I can't believe that this is even being discussed. If Oezil is available, then we simply need to stop dicking around and sign the kid. If the prices in the 12 to 15 million range are true, then it would be completely foolish to ignore him. Keep in mind we spent 16 million on Tosic, and that essentially bought us 8 first team minutes and three reserve goals. If he was worth the gamble at that price, why not get the player that started for one of the best sides in this years world cup. He was astonishing in the tourney, and I for one believe that above all else, Fergie has an eye for talent. He surprised us with Chicarito, and he'll surprise us again with Oezil. Fergie said he wasn't signing anybody? When hasn't he said that? We weren't signing anybody and pulled off a premier league high transfer of our favorite Bulgarian. Fergie isn't dumb. We're getting this kid. I for one, can't wait. He's the kind of player that can take over the Paul Scholes/Ronaldo/Giggs role of a goal scoring creative midfielder. Fletch can focus more on cleaning up in the midfield and the pace of Oezil and Rooney/Hernandez could be deadly this season. Not to mention that his ball holding abilities could free some of the burden of that thankless task from berbatov, so that he can focus on getting into better positions to score. This is done on Monday, or else I'm going to be very, very sad.

SAF believed our squard was good enough last year and we came 2nd in the league. And he said more or less the same thing again this time and god knows what will happen this season. The only think I know is that all our major rivals are getting stronger. We definitely need someone in the midfield when Giggs and Scholes are very close to the end of their playing career. Ozil is young and surely has the potential to do well in Man U. Given his price, the potential upside return is enormous.

There is a secret bid for Ozil made by Ferguson which is being reviewed by Werder Bremen. Ferguson would love to have ozil for the right price but does not want to make him a top target hence he has been tight-lipped.

Were it not for a Chelsea off-side goal, we'd have won the FOURTH title in a row last season - with a champions league trophy and another champs league final place along the way. The arrogance of some of you! Sir Alex Ferguson, knight of the realm, knows exactly what he is doing. If Ozil was as good as you lot THINK he is, Barca and Real, who can spend money for the hell of it and just to stop other clubs signing players (which is what City do too, remember they tried to hijack Berbatov?)...all these clubs would be falling over themselves trying to sign him. So there's a hell of a lot of opinions, from scouts from the world's best teams, who are saying something very different to you small time, glory hunting United 'fan' football experts. The best comment here is the one saying we should sign him because everyone on the MUTV phone-ins wants him and everyone on the forums. Well SAF doesn't buy players to win popularity contests....he buys them to win trophies, and he's the most decorated manager in history. As for the "we got no money" brigade, well you will be waking up to news of our signing of a previously unknown, previously homeless Portuguese street kid - 'Bebe', for £7.4m...and we moved quickly because Mourinho was sniffing around him. He was scouted for us by Carlos Quieroz...the man who discovered Ronaldo. Both Bebe and Hernandez were signed without the press getting a single sniff. And Fergie hasn't finished spending yet....so IF he thinks Ozil is good for the club, he will sign him. If he doesn't sign him, we have great players already. Chill out!
