Jack Rodwell To Sign Before Deadline ? 30/08/2010
 It happens every year: one big name that just won't go away for the last 24 hours of the transfer window. This year it's Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell. As Tom Cleverley leaves Old Trafford for Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan, will Rodwell fill his space, or is it just another rumour ?... We're almost certain that Sir Alex Ferguson holds Rodwell in high regard. The 19-year-old England U-21 International has been hailed as 'the next big thing' in Premier League football, and has duly lived up to expectations at Everton. Rodwell has been linked with Manchester United in the past, and has been touted as Paul Scholes eventual replacement - not necessarily for United, but for England at least. Rodwell has made 47 Premier League appearances, scoring 2 goals - one of which (on his debut) put The Red's to the sword at Goodison Park last season in Everton's shock 3-1 victory over Sir Alex's men. The 6ft 2in starlet started his career as a center-back - very similar to Chris Smalling - however, he has developed into a defensive midfielder, and more recently played a more attacking role - as seen against United last season. Rodwell could also act as a box-to-box midfielder, with the stamina to race around the field consistently.  Jack Rodwell scores against United last season Midfielder Tom Cleverley has joined Wigan Athletic on-loan for the new season, despite Sir Alex stating he would keep the 21-year-old at The Theatre Of Dreams. This could open the door to a new signing in midfield, but it could also point to the boss reserving a place for Owen Hargreaves. The Sun have reported that United are set to bid £10 Million, with under-form Michael Carrick included in the swap plus cash deal. Other sources suggest that Fergie may go ahead and bid the full £15 - £20 Million asking price. United Latest understands that the club are interested in Rodwell, but may hold-off on bidding until the January transfer window. Sir Alex is a keen admirer of Rodwell, who has been with The Toffees since he was a 16-year-old. Many fans hope Rodwell will follow in Wayne Rooney's footsteps - who joined United from his boy-hood and trainee club, Everton. One obstacle may stand in the way of a possible move - Rodwell's new 5-year contract. The youngster signed the deal before the end of last season, and the Merseysiders are keen to hold onto him. However, the deal was only thought to have been put in place to raise Rodwell's price-tag if a club were to become interested in him. Rodwell certainly has a future at Old Trafford if he and the two parties involved make one for him, but will he join the World's biggest club by dinner-time... it's sketchy, but as usual: we'll just have to wait and see !
