Anderson suffered concussion, whiplash and minor bruising after his two-seater Audi R8 left a rural road in Braga, Portugal in the early hours of Saturday morning. Two other passengers were also treated, one of which - believed to be his girlfriend - received surgery. All were released from hospital over the weekend.

Many rumours suggested he may have been drinking, however it is not yet known who was behind the wheel. Portuguese Police are continuing their investigation, and may charge Anderson with having excess passengers regardless of whether alcohol was involved. 

The Brazilian midfielder exclusively told Sportsmail: "I am very lucky because the accident was serious. I knew the road well. But the car lost control at a curve and we crashed against a wall. I remember people coming to help, which I am very grateful for. I just want to tell United fans I am fine and I will continue my rehabilitation so I can help the team. I’ve had lots of calls and have assured my friends not to worry, but it was a very big scare for me."

Anderson was docked a weeks wages just seven months ago, after returning to Brazil without permission. The 'rising star' ruptured a cruciate ligament in his left knee back in February - which kept him out of the World Cup. He had become the centre of some tabloid stories recently, after he was becoming increasingly known for his 'party' lifestyle.
