Mesut Ozil: Manchester United ?
According to German media, Manchester United are ready, steady, go in what is expected to turn into an international bidding war for Germany's Mesut Ozil. The 21-year-old Werder Bremen midfielder has become a transfer gossip sensation ever since he revealed his admiration for United...

Once Sir Alex Ferguson and David Gill make their way back to Old Trafford - after the pre-season schedule - they will make a bid for Ozil, say various reports. £12 Million has been set as the asking price for Ozil, with £15 - £17 Million being the price Werder will sell at.

Value for money is something that Sir Alex has always looked at, but with Ozil going for more or less the same amount as new signing Javier Hernandez was bought for - then it has got to be a bargain. Directly after South Africa 2010, the young German was tipped to fetch up to, and possibly over £25 Million, but since then Werder has dropped their evaluation dramatically.

Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are all said to be interested in signing the starlet. However, despite our recent debt problems and competition for his signature - The Reds' are still favourites to land Ozil, with unattractive odds of 1/5. The speculation will no doubt continue, but will our fans be content with the outcome. Well, that remains to be seen...

I speak fluent German. There is NOTHING in the German media about an impending bid. There was an article from sport.co.uk and tribalfootball saying there was, but there isn't. The only thing that is confirmed is that Werder Bremen have not been able to agree a contract extension, that Oezil wants to leave and that Bremen want 16million Euros for him.
When asked about bids received, Alofs said they had NOT received any official bids yet.

yes please but as usual with rumours i will take it with a huge pinch of salt.

today we have also been linked with annan and a young keeper too.

if we sign all 3 i will be over the moon but i would quite happily just take ozil.
with fergies likeing of 433 i think he will work in very well plus he can play out wide and just behind the striker.

More bull with again no quotes. The United website is probably reporting it in 'What the papers say' section. Lets see what happens ....

Thu, 29 Jul 2010 11:40:03 pm

I'll give you a quote if you want mate: "I can already think that we will have offers in the next few weeks or just before the transfer deadline from a number of clubs," said Werder Bremen general manager Klaus Allofs.

"If something concrete comes, we have a duty to talk to Mesut Ozil and his advisors and to see what they want. We will not change our policy. We cannot afford it."

http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/bundesliga/startseite.html/527740/artikel_Keine-Verlaengerung-mit-Oezil.html

For those who don't read/speak German the article above is dated the 18th of July - 12 days ago - and says that Manchester United are said to be amongst those interested in signing the 21 year old.

I suggest you read more carefully.

I like this blog and didn't come here to be a pain. Just to clarify. Even in the mother of all German tabloids, Bild, Man Utd aren't explicitly linked to Oezil.

Also, I'm not anti-Oezil. I just follow the Bundesliga and know that he disappears quite regularly. And I know that most UNited fans do not follow the Bundesliga regularly and are basing their opinion of Oezil solely on YouTube videos and a few good moments in the World Cup, where he wasn't great in every match either.

He is talented, no doubt and I wouldn't mind him signing for United at all, but he would need a lot of work. Needs to be more consistent, improve his team work and stamina.

love united hate glazers

Fri, 30 Jul 2010 6:12:35 am

fergie says he'll only spend if there is value for money in the market..isnt 12-15 million pounds great value for a 21-year old star in the making that would add much needed creativity in our midfield?

if fergie doesnt move for him then it's pretty obvious that what he says are all lies to coax us fans that the situation is fine when the real reason is that the glazers are simply not giving him any money to spend because they only have interest to drain our money to pay for their business in US!!

Hi guys, like all of you, I like Ozil from the performances i saw at the WC. However, we should all trust that SAF will deliver as he always. Who has brought us more glories than he did? Well, SAF said that our current squad have about 11-12 under the age of 21... and the young flegings are almost ready. Whether we sign Ozil or not, at least Hernandez, Macheda, Obertan and even Gibson looks quite promising. So...we should see Ozil as a bonus, not a must. =D

Ozil Lover

Fri, 30 Jul 2010 7:57:59 am

SAF will be dumb not to buy Ozil at a bargain price of around £15 million. Where can you get such an amazing player at this reasonable price? Unless Ozil declares he would prefer somewhere else. Otherwise, we should buy him.

ZZZ

Fri, 30 Jul 2010 10:26:35 am

sooooooo want ozil. dont understand how everyone naming their startin eleven and no Giggs. Over the last two years only Rooney and Vidic could compare to his performances. Nani, Valencia, Obertan etc for the future granted but right now if playin a big game in the coming year number eleven will be in da startin 11

RE: RFR

Sorry mate. Kicker is wrong, and so are many blog's and other sites - including the Daily Mail, where they basically state the same as I do.

I would NEVER make-up something, and I only post articles that have a bit of truth in them. I love you blog too, by the way.

Anyhow, he still might come...

manchester eveing news have it now. aslo 18 july is a weak old. so they must be news information a weak later. plus were 1/ 5 favourties to sign
him

Fri, 30 Jul 2010 1:34:13 pm

No problems, mate. I never thought you were making it up, just that it was a rumour started (I think by tribalfootball) and then picked up by other sites including M.E.N. but there's very little about United having made a bid or about to bid for Özil.

Having said all that, including my own reservations about the player, I rate his talent and potential. He's not the finished article yet, but has bags of talent.

Glazer hater

Fri, 30 Jul 2010 3:59:24 pm

@RFR You're talking to a brick wall, unfortunately. If you try to point out that these are the same rumours being recycled over and over again, you are labelled an "Ozil hater" on this blog!

Come on!

Fri, 30 Jul 2010 10:43:02 pm

FFS The scouse cunts are ready to bid for Defour now.
We need to sign him and Ozzy before it's too late. Hopefully it's the first job once we land back in Manchester, before we head over to Dublin.

Fredster

Sat, 31 Jul 2010 12:01:27 am

I was stunned when I heard the Scousers are trying to steal Defour, after Fergie put in all the hard work, writing him that nice letter.

We'd better sign him just to stop the Scousers getting him.

And no, I've never actually seen him play!

Sat, 31 Jul 2010 3:47:45 pm

If that is a true story, Ozil could well be heading to Real Madrid, since he doesn't want to talk about them.

there must be sonme truth in the ozil move to madriad sky bet have change odds from us being 1/5. to 2/7 with city going from 3/1 to 4/1 and madriad coming from 8/1 to 6/1. it doesnt look good at this monment in time. but it all cpuld change like it did last saturday

@ mesut welconme back. the marca reported today ozil said i wont talk about madriad yet any truth in that story? and sky bet have change madriad from 6/1 to 7/ 2 and city are now at 6/1 they wete at 4/1

Sat, 31 Jul 2010 7:20:52 pm

It's true that I said that. Reporters from Marca ambushed me while I was playing cards with my buddies. They came asking stupid questions about Real Madrid over and over again, so I simply said "I'm not talking about Madrid". As far as I'm concerned, Marca journalists are the lowest of the low. If they ever bother me when I'm with my friends again, they'll live to regret it.
