Match Report - Kansas City Wizards 2-1 United Competition: International Friendly Kick-Off & Date: 11pm, Sunday 26th July Venue: Arrowhead Stadium (Neutral) Attendance: 52,424 Over 50,000 fans travelled to the newly refurbished Arrowhead Stadium to watch the World's biggest club take-on MLS minnows, the Kansas City Wizards - derived, of course, from the Wizard Of Oz. And it was the home side who certainly cast a spell on The Reds, as they performed embarrassingly and lost humiliatingly. Now it's only a friendly, but United should have put The Wizards to bed on a number of occasions. Davy Arnaud put Kansas in-front with just 11 minutes on the clock. Dimitar Berbatov was then given a clear-cut penalty, but Referee Terry Vaughn marred the decision by harshly sending-off Jimmy Conrad. Berba slotted away the penalty cool as you like, or lazy as you like in this case. With Kansas down to 10 men, everyone thought it would be a walk-over. It was anything but. Kei Kamara scored the match winning goal three minutes after the spot-kick, in the 43rd minute. United put pressure on the Americans after the break, but nothing could stop them from grabbing a shock win over The Red Devils... The stadium went under a $325 Million re-design recently, and judging on United's performance on Sunday night - they may have to do just the same, or at least sign a creative attack... any ideas ? Early on, Paul Scholes struck narrowly over the crossbar after Luis Nani's free-kick was blocked. However, moments later Kamara set-up skipper Arnaud to pass it under young Ben Amos' legs and into the net. The crowd was in shock, already. The Wizards could have gone further ahead, but The Reds just about held-out, with Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans struggling at centre back. Ryan Giggs was then attacked by Michael Harrington in the opposition box during a corner, and somehow he got a booking ? However, on 42 minutes - the break came. Giggs threading in Berbatov - who was about to shoot - when defender Conrad took the legs from beneath the Bulgarian, getting nowhere near the ball. Berba capitalised, but the crowd was again left aghast when Conrad as shown red for the challenge in the heated friendly. ![]() Only positive: Nani back ! Three minutes after the leveller, Kamara rose to meet Ryan Smith's corner. He headed off the bar, and the linesman on the far side adjudged the ball to have crossed the line. Replays were pretty inconclusive. Regardless, The Wizards had the lead. Darron Gibson, Mame Diouf, Nani, Berbatov and Ritchie De Laet made way for Kiko Macheda, Tom Cleverley, Gabriel Obertan, Danny Welbeck and Fabio Da Silva in the second half. Kiko had a header brushed off the line, Scholsey had an unsuccessful pot shot fly wide, and Obertan was clean-on in the area, only for the French winger to pass the ball across the face of the goal with no one in sight. Cleverley had a curling effort float past the post in the dying seconds, but in the end - the biggest club in the World just weren't good enough. Yes, it's only pre-season - but with a one man advantage against a small American side, we really should have done better... United: Amos, Rafael, Evans, Smalling, De Laet (Fabio), Nani (Obertan), Gibson (Cleverley), Scholes, Giggs (booked), Berbatov (Welbeck), Diouf (Macheda). Commentsbrian 26/07/2010 12:07am

actually its not bad to lose in pre season...thats how we learn isn't it? Erm...after looking at the past few matches...I agree with Fregie that we have quite number of interesting youngster...Nani, Macheda, Valencia, Diouf, Obertan, Ceverly and of course...Hernandez...not to forget the brazilian brothers , Evan, ROONey... well..what we need is actually a NEW KEANO!

It was a bit heartless of the management to demand Gibson return to the tour after only a couple of days compassionate leave. Is our squad really that thin on quality? Here's an idea to relieve some of the pressure on Scholes and Gibson; get the chequebook out and SIGN FUCKING OZIL.

Gibson hasn't been improving for a while now, all of last season was a bit of a backward step and even though he has an excuse for this performance we need him to show something in his next run out.
