The Rep. of Ireland midfielder had played in United's 3-1 victory over Celtic on Friday night in Toronto, Canada. Gibson had hoped to feature in the Red's second pre-season game against Philadelphia Union on Wednesday, after impressing in training.

However, Sir Alex Ferguson has tonight given Gibson permission to leave the training base in the US and fly home to his native County Derry after the unexpected death of his Grandmother. Our thoughts and prayers are with Darron and his family...
