Match Report - Man City 0-1 United Competition: Barclays Premier League Kick-Off & Date: 12:45pm, Saturday 17th April Venue: Eastlands (Away) Attendance: 47,019 First it was Michael Owen's 96th minute winner at Old Trafford against City in The League, followed by Wayne Rooney's 91st minute header to send The Reds to Wembley in a 3-1 thriller against City, and now Paul Scholes has revived our Title hopes, in what may turn out to be a famous header, in the 93rd minute in Eastlands... Scholes signed a new 1-year contract extension midweek, and duly marked it with his 149th goal for the club - one of his most dramatic finishes yet, as Patrice Evra strolled down the left flank, floating a magnificent ball into the on-rushing veteran, the rest is history ! Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs started, much to the relief of the fans, after both were deemed as 'doubtful'. Giggs lined-up alongside fellow Legends; Paul Scholes and Gary Neville. As Jonny Evans took Rio Ferdinand's position. Darren Fletcher had a great chance to find the target in the opening encounters, but shot inches wide of a mostly unmanned goal, when Shay Given was caught-out by some smart passing. Carlos Tevez then dived to win a free-kick off Evans, his fall was pathetic, but his shot wasn't - it very nearly went in top right corner, but Edwin Van Der Sar used his long arms to grab hold of the ball. Rooney was visibly unfit, after nearly two weeks out, but that didn't stop him chasing the defence around. After Scholes had an effort, Roo raced up the field, he tried to cue the ball to Giggs but Kolo Toure blocked, he regained possession immediately, but was stopped in his tracks again... Giggs and Antonio Valencia kept things moving for The Reds, as they dominated possession inside the first half. Vincent Kompany and Adam Johnson picked-up bookings early into the second half, but there was more of an urgency about City. Craig Bellamy, Emmanuel Adebayor and Tevez had many chances between them, but all were pretty well defended - by a strong back-four, consisting of Neville, Evans, Nemanja Vidic and Evra... Neville was booed constantly, but did fantastic against Bellamy, and according the new World Cup Betting odds, he may well be part of Fabio Capello's set-up ? Gareth Barry and Wayne Bridge both appeared to handle the ball in the City box in quick succession, but being honest - they didn't mean it, that was echoed by the half-hearted appeals ! Luis Nani, Dimitar Berbatov and Gabriel Obertan came on inside 10 minutes of each other, for Darron Gibson, Wayne Rooney (limping around at this stage), and Antonio Valencia. As City responded with Patrick Vieira, Shaun Wright-Philips and Stephen Ireland, replacing Adam Johnson, Nigel De Jong and Emmanuel Adebayor. Nani was involved instantly, making runs down the right. Berbatov got his head on one of the Portuguese wingers crosses, but the ball fell wide of the post. City then nearly scored from a corner, with a huge scuffle in the area, The Reds just about survived... Entering the final few moments City fans were pretty content with a draw, United fans weren't. Obertan exchanged passes with Evra, as the Frenchmen (Evra) strolled up the pitch, he floated a beauty into the area, as Scholes sprinted in... he connected fantastically, as the ball landed in Given's far right hand corner - three minutes had been added, and the no. 18 veteran ironically scored with 18 seconds remaining, in the 92nd minute, and 42 seconds ! It's now up to Spurs to grasp fourth place, as they face Chelsea later today - can they help us out... they have already done just that in recent days, with a 2-1 defeat over Arsenal, hopefully they can do the same against Carlo Ancelotti's side at White Heart Lane...
