United and England fans alike will be on the edge of their seats, closely watching Sky Sports News later today, to learn the extent of Wayne Rooney's ankle injury. In the last minute of stoppage time, Ivica Olic scored a very late winner for Bayern, as Roo fell to the floor after twisting his right ankle...

Rooney didn't play on Saturday against Bolton Wanderers, instead he was given a much-needed rest. He started against Bayern Munich in the Allianz Arena looking to score his 34th goal and beyond, he quickly did so. From a Luis Nani free-kick the ball fell to Wazza, and he blasted it home...

But late on a Franck Ribery free-kick was deflected into the back of the net by none other than... Roo himself. Then came the double blow; Olic latched onto a loose ball and fired the Bavarians into the second leg, leading. And at the same time, Rooney went to ground, clutching his right ankle... nerves took over !

"We’ll just have to wait and see how his ankle is tomorrow (Wednesday). Hopefully it’s not too serious. He might be doubtful for Saturday (Chelsea) but we don’t know for sure." said Sir Alex.

Rooney left with medical and security staff, separate from the squad. His right foot encased in a protective cast and hobbling along on a pair of crutches.
