![]() It has emerged that Barca striker, Lionel Messi, earns nearly £600k per week - more than any other player in the world. He may be last years Player of the Year, and a hell of a good player he is, but behind it all he is just another businessman. It's not hunger to play, as much as it is hunger for pay ! Last year, Messi earned £30 (€33.5) Million alone from his wages, which included a bonus for winning La Liga and the Champions League. He is the world's highest paid player, with £570,000 (€635,000) per week from the Spanish giants. Yet, a player far better than him - Wayne Rooney, earns £125,000 per week from United. Messi may be a footballing great, but it looks like he does it for the money. He held Barcelona to ransom over Christmas, threatening to leave if he didn't receive over half a million each week ! David Beckham is the second highest paid player, with £27 Million for last year. While Cristiano Ronaldo, Ricardo Kaka and Thierry Henry follow suite. Surprisingly Carlos Tevez also makes it into the rich list, in 7th place - no wonder he left us... José Mourinho is the highest paid manger, with Roberto Mancini close behind. Both earn around £11 Million per year, José may have a right to take a big cut, but Mancini earning £11 Million per year is laughable. You'd be crazy to hire him, even for your local Under 6's ! I would pay half a million a week just to watch him,let alone have in my team, I wouldn't say the same for Rooney....save your bitterness for the missus.

I'm a United fan, and I wear my red glasses with pride, but Rooney is not better than Messi. I love Rooney, he's a fantastic player, one of the best in the world today, but Messi is on another planet. When his career is over he will be mentioned in the same breath as Maradona, Pele and Fat Ronaldo as the greatest ever to play the game. Hell, you could even make an argument for mentioning him alongside those greats today.

He's the best player in the world and it's quite rightly reflected in his pay packet. John Utaka earns a reported £80k a week, in a footballing world that's gone mad, Messi is surely worth tenfold that amount.

It's articles like these that make non-Utd fans think that we're biased. Rooney is great but Messi has shown time and time again that he's a big game player. No player in world football apart from Messi plays so skilfully while making it look so effortless. He's a joy to watch, a thorough gentleman (though he's only a kid) and he doesn't believe in his own hype. Messi's a real role model to kids wanting to play the game at the highest level. I have nothing but complete RESPECT for him. I'm a RED since 1979.

Messi is some great, but Roo is a better striker and all team-round player. Messi has a great work rate but again Wazza works even harder. Roo shouldn't get paid more, Messii should be paid less cause £600grand is ridiculous !!
