Darren Fletcher fell victim to Arsene Wenger a few months ago, after he played a magnificent game. The Scot won tons of tackles and girly Wenger said Fletch put-in an 'anti-football' performance.

But Sir Alex stood-up for Fletcher and expressed his dislike with Wenger's comments, saying Fletcher is a 'fantastic' player.

Fletcher has come under fierce scrutiny from Premier League referees after the Frenchman's comments.

"That is where Arsene let himself down," said Sir Alex. "What he said was disappointing and actually, I don't think he believes it for a minute." 

"Everyone knows that Darren Fletcher is not a dirty player or a physical player. He is not built that way. But he can win the ball and his timing and energy to get to it is fantastic. You can't call that a fault."
